02 - Old Soldiers and Bold Soldiers
Date & Time (ET): 2024-01-18T20:15:00.000-05:00
Summary
Hot off the events of the prior session, the camp of the Unakh-Drakken is in disarray - but the soldiers themselves remain undeterred, and thus the Fellowship's mission is incomplete.
While Runato and Lei continue their interrogation of Kifle, a soldier comes to investigate the commotion. Trying to keep her from discovering the rest of the Fellowship, Emilia ends up in a scrap with Vir'iq; out in the wilderness, Sylo gets adopted by a confused but well-meaning wyrm. These events converge when Sylo is dropped in the middle of the camp while the soldiers mount a sneak attack against Emilia's crew - killing one but losing far more when the Fellowship rallies for a counterattack against their divided forces.
Notes
As the storm intensifies...
- Emilia tries to walk out of camp with purpose, but she's stopped - and then accompanied - by a suspicious Vir'iq.
- Runato and Lei interrogate Kifle, who eventually admits that he was trying to deal under the table with the Unakh-Drakken. There's a bit more to discover, but the group is interrupted.
- Out in the wilderness, Sylo tries to tame Rubah, one of the wyverns he led on a merry chase... but she becomes [protective of Sylo Xu] instead, and he gets adopted and dragged back to the camp.
- In an attempt to protect her comrades from discovery, Emilia launches a sneak attack on Vir'iq; the two tussle their way down a hillside.
- Kel'mon finds the Runato, Lei, Alise, Alicia, and Kifle. Lei tries to bluff her way out of it, but Runato refuses to lie and announces that they're there to kill the Unakha. Kel'mon beats a hasty retreat and calls for help.
- Sylo gets dropped in camp by Rubah, who starts grooming him. Tai'chaar finds this very funny. Sylo tries to leave but Rubah won't let him.
- Emilia threatens Vir'iq, telling her and the Unakha to stand down and decamp or she'll signal her people to attack. Vir'iq counters, saying that Dahlia warned the camp that they were being surrounded and that soldiers are being dispatched to deal with Emilia's scattered crew as they speak. Emilia refuses to back down and Vir'iq cashes in on the threat.
- Emilia and Vir'iq continue to scrap as Emilia's rage mounts. She mauls Vir'iq, rendering her [one-eyed], and leaves her unconscious and bleeding on the ground.
- Runato suffers some memory loss, losing track of what the Fellowship is doing. Runato, Lei, Alise, and Alicia arrive on the scene, having let Kifle scamper off into the wilds.
- In camp, Sylo sees Dahlia giving orders to some of the soldiers and pointing out where Emilia's crew is hidden. He tries to communicate with Rubah as best he can and get her to help. Rubah gets... a bit aggressive, biting Dahlia nearly in half and freaking out the few soldiers remaining to watch the camp.
- While Lei debriefs with Emilia, Runato looks around for Sylo. They hear a roaring from the nearby camp. They also spot one of the soldiers, having been pointed toward the hiding places of Emilia's crew... one of whom is killed.
- Runato and Emilia lead the call to attack. The crew comes out from hiding and tears through the unarmored soldiers with few casualties on their own side. Sword in hand, Runato hallucinates glimpses of a mysterious otherworld in the chaos of the fight. It's probably nothing.
The Unakha are routed and scattered. Vir'iq is unconscious, Dahlia is soon to die. The day is won(?).
